Givenchy SS16

2015 is the year Riccardo Tisci celebrates his tenth as the creative director at Givenchy and he decided that this was also to be the year he was going to take the Americas. With a store opening in New York imminent and his public love affair with US based celebs, it made perfect sense that he would uproot the house and move them stateside to show at NYFW.As expected, the show was spectacular - held outside at Pier 26 as the sun set. The open air show allowed for local guests to reflect and look back upon their city (a fitting sentiment given the show was held on the anniversary of September 11) and to appreciate it's beauty in a moment (about 70 moments actually - the show ran quite late) as the sun came down. Tisci's loyal fans filled the frow with Julia Roberts (current face of Givenchy campaign) sitting alongside the likes of Kimye, Naomi Campbell, Steven & Liv Tyler, Amanda Seyfried, Margot Robbie and Courtney Love. Once the fuss of the location and 'who's there' chatter dies off, we can talk about the brilliantness that was this collection. 'Sticking to what he has done best and then adding a little bit more' was how the collection could be described, with some of Tisci's most famous silhouettes, shapes and constructions reappearing once again but with a fresh twist. A much more wearable collection than what we are used to seeing from Givenchy made sense given this is Tisci's one shot at solidifying himself in the US - a market that seems to lure the Europeans like a moth to a middle class flame given the apparent $$$ they can turn quickly - so he went about it smartly, showcasing a small portion of his couture streak, his flawless understanding of chic menswear and of course his ability to nail (really accessible) ultra sexy & desirable 'it-girl' dressing for women.

I'm not gonna lie, there's somewhat of a feeling of selling out going on here that I can't shake, but at the same time, this is by far one of my favourite collections I've ever seen from Givenchy, so I have to just go with the love and remember that I too am mass market just like the US of A...
